Insomnia

Many factors, physical and emotional, can contribute to sleep disturbance, for example, stress, anxiety, physical pain, hot flashes, the need to take care of a baby or to use the bathroom. As each person’s insomnia is different, my approach is tailored to you.

Because the hypnotic state has much in common with the altered state we pass through on the way from waking to sleep, hypnosis works very well for insomnia. We all know how to fall asleep and have fallen asleep easily and naturally at some point in our lives. Clients are taught how to calm the mind, relax the body, and use a variety of self-hypnotic techniques and “games” to fall asleep. The key is inducing a dream state that works as a bridge from day to night. You receive a recording of the session so that you can practice “taking yourself down” into a deeper, dream-like state where you can drift off. Root causes are addressed; for example, techniques for modulating anxiety and pain are included when needed.

My approach to insomnia has been very successful. It has worked for clients suffering with extreme forms of insomnia, who have not been helped by CBT, sleep consolidation, or medication.
